How Within works
Journaling comes first. Everything else is optional, and you can switch it off.
Write, or vent
Open a new entry and type. Add a title, tags or feelings if you want to. They’re your own labels; Within never guesses them.
Choose what happens next
“Just capture” saves the entry and that’s the end of it. “Reflect with me” asks for a short reflection with at most one question. “Help me untangle this” splits it into what happened, what you’re thinking, what you’re feeling and what’s still unclear, and you can edit all of it.
Keep or dismiss
Reflections are kept separate from your words. You can accept one, edit it, dismiss it, or report a problem with it. You can turn AI off at any time.
Notice connections, if you ask
With Within Threads, pick a few entries and ask what might connect them. Each suggestion quotes your exact words and links to the entry. You keep it, correct it, or dismiss it. Within never scans your whole journal on its own.
Explore, when you’re ready
Within Compass holds the things you enjoy, care about or are curious about. You can turn one into a small, low-cost experiment: no deadlines, and no shame in pausing.
Keep your words, if you want
Within Keepsakes makes a printable PDF of entries you choose, on your device. It’s optional, it never changes or deletes your entries, and Within doesn’t keep a copy.
Reach someone
The Support button is on every screen. It shows the people you’ve chosen and verified support lines. Within opens your phone’s app to call or text; it can’t send anything, or know whether anyone answered.
About AI reflection
AI is off unless you turn it on, and you can still use the whole journal with it off. When you ask for a reflection, only the entry you chose is sent to the AI provider. It runs only when you ask. If what you wrote suggests you might be in danger, Within doesn’t produce a reflection; it shows ways to reach people instead. Detection like this can miss danger, and it can misread a song lyric or a story. Read how safety works.
In this release, AI reflection stays switched off for everyone until clinicians have reviewed the safety wording and routing.
